Peninsula Chapter Breakfast

On August 18, 2017, our Bay Area Peninsula chapter members got together for an informative, enthusiastic and engaging discussion at Menlo Grill Bistro & Bar!

On August 17, 2017, the ladies of our SunLaw San Diego chapter held a happy hour at Searsucker in Del Mar for some always-welcome member bonding!

It was great to see everyone at Per Diem in San Francisco for a relaxed happy hour in our own little oasis with its own palm tree!

 

SunLaw San Diego Kick Off Meeting

On July 13, 2017, we held our inaugural meeting kicking of the SunLaw San Diego chapter at the offices of Cooley Godward Kronish. Judging by the huge turnout, this region is ready for a group like ours! The event was a great success, with an enthusiastic group of in-house attorneys who came ready to network, learn and get to know one another. We talked about the specific needs of our SunLaw San Diego members and look forward to bringing more programs to San Diego and to growing that chapter. SunLaw Portland Kick Off Meeting

On June 12, 2017, we held our inaugural meeting kicking off the SunLaw Portland chapter. We talked about the specific needs of our SunLaw Portland members and got to know each other. We're exciting to bring more programs to Portland and to growing that chapter. If you're in the area, please reach out and join our group!  

April SF Breakfast Mingle

On April 12, 2017, we had our second informal breakfast mingle at 111 Minna.

Wine & Mingle

On March 9, 2017, Farella Braun + Martel LLP hosted our members for an informative evening of networking and wine tasting (Farella has a vineyard!).

We split into small groups for a lively discussion on how to best partner with outside counsel on corporate and litigation matters, as well as how to manage insurance negotiations.   

March Peninsula Breakfast Mingle

On March 3, 2017, we held our inaugural breakfast mingle on the peninsula so that members who live/work outside of San Francisco have an opportunity to get to know each other. We plan on making sure we continue providing these opportunities in the future!  

February SF Breakfast Mingle

On February 15, 2017, we kicked off the year with our first breakfast mingle. After a hectic year end, our members were excited to get together. As usual, there was no shortage of interesting and diverse conversations!  

Fireside Chat with Allyson Willoughby

Allyson Willoughby of CareZone, was a big firm securities litigator, who caught the tech bug and went in house at the height of the first tech bubble in early 2000. Since then, she has been involved in pretty much every area a legal department deals with -- from eCommerce to Intellectual Property and Compliance to Employment. 

Members learned how Allyson has navigated her career and ever-changing in-house environment!

Top three takeaways from Allyson's Fireside Chat:

  • Don't be afraid to take time off between jobs and explore your passions.

  • Dive into the unknown - it will only make you a better lawyer.

  • Be kind even when everyone around you is stressed.

Open Source for Business

On September 13, 2016, Omelveny & Meyers hosted a great event in San Francisco with open-source guru Heather Meeker, author of Open Source for Business: A Practical Guide to Open Source Software Licensing. Heather is the expert and prominent author on all things open source held an informative event for our members, and provided lots of practical tips to help every in-house counsel become an open source guru. 

Top three takeaways from Heather's talk: 

  • Don't be afraid to ask your engineering team lots of questions.

  • Have a clear sense of what your company's long-term open source strategy is. 

  • Hold regular training sessions to make sure key stakeholders are on board and aligned with your policy. 

Mindfulness & Connection

On September 7, 2016, McDermott Will & Emory hosted Jeena Cho, author of The Anxious Lawyer, in Menlo Park and on September 8, 2016, Seyfarth Shaw hosted Jeena in San Francisco for an enlightening event on Mindfulness & Connection when SunLaw members had the opportunity to practice some meditation and relaxation techniques and got to take home a copy of Jeena's book!

Compensation & Gender

On August 25, 2016, RPX Corporation hosted Julie Brush, the Lawyer Whisperer,  for an event focused on the best ways women can optimize negotiating their job offers, tips and tricks for bringing your best self to a salary negotiation, and engaged in an open discussion on the latest trends in compensation.  Julie discussed latest trends in compensation, shared tips for successfully negotiating the best offer, and enthusiastically answered questions from our engaged attendees!

Meet & Greet

On June 23, 2016, SunLaw members got together at the beautiful 111 Minna Gallery to get to know each other better in a casual and informal setting. After a round of introductions, we had a number of interesting discussions ranging from taking on a new business role to thoughts on upcoming changes to privacy laws.  

Inaugural Gathering

On May 23, 2016 we held our inaugural SunLaw event at Rosa Mexicana in San Francisco.

The enthusiasm in the room was palpable and we were inspired by the caliber of women who are part of SunLaw!
